The noble, humble art of fishing
in Port Elizabeth
Man, there are fish here. There is natural bait underneath your feet. Nothing is overcrowded and the pure natural beauty of the Port Elizabeth seas and rivers will make you want to leave home, unless of course home is Port Elizabeth. Even so, many avid fishermen have been known to leave home especially if the rooiass (red-bait) is getting a bit riper. Let's show you some of the REAL stuff...The guys shown on this page are personal friends of mine. Father, Dave Alcock and I were at school together so long ago that History Books were still thin then.

Shown here is Chad with a Red Roman caught on a lure. The name Chad Alcock sounds familiar ? Hmmm I guess so, seeing he's touring the British Isles with our World Champion Springbok rugby team. Watch for those nuggety try-scoring scrum-half breaks of his. Yes, Mom - he's no. 9 on the field. |

Now what was that book that Hemingway wrote ? The "Old Man and the Sea" if I remember correctly. Here's Dave himself with a kingfish - a really supreme fighting fish. Dave's knowledge of Port Elizabeth - sea, rivers and dams is extensive. |

and here's Lando with what is called a "Leerie" - Those that are uninformed called it a garrick and catch less of them, and smaller. It's also a magnificent fighting fish. You will note that Lando caught it on extremely light tackle, with a lure and in all likelihood returned it to the water. |

| Dave and Chad
and Lando run a shop called Alcock's Fishing Tackle
at no 87 Russel Road Port Elizabeth. Their telephone number and
fax number is: 041-5860202 (if outside South Africa, then + 27 - 41 - 5860202) |
Dave and his wife
Eugene were stunningly good sportsmen in their day. They were city tennis
champions and Dave's snap drop was feared by the Albany opponents. Then the fun
(and family) started. Dave and his family have travelled all over the country
and found, in most cases, the perfect fishing waters. He is an avid nature
conservationist and has returned more large fish to the sea than what you and I
have eaten in our lives. If you need to contact Dave, email me on:
martin@response.co.za and I'll
make sure he gets the letter.
Note: If you're coming to Port Elizabeth, if you want to know where to go fishing, or need tackle...speak to those who REALLY know. Contact Alcock's.
