Martins Guest House hosts distinguished and familiar guests

From left: Michael John Procter (Proccie to many), Alan Crossman, Mark Evans.
The world's greatest and most versatile cricket all-rounder from the continent of Africa.

Those readers who have been watching cricket for more than a few years will remember Proccie in his heyday. That blonde hair menacingly bouncing as he came in from the duckpond end will be fearfully remembered by all batsmen that faced him. His bowling arm came over so fast that for many years it was thought that he bowled off the "wrong foot". The opening pair of Pollock and Procter drove absolute fear into the hearts of Aussies like Bill Lawry and the like who never won a test match in the series. The batting was helped a dash by Dennis Lindsay who scored just about a century in every test whilst breaking the world record for dismissals at the same time. "Jeeps" showed the world what true class is. I remember a test at St. Georges and being amazed that the grass wasn't burnt at the speed at which Jeeps hit a four through the covers. Jeeps = Graeme Pollock = GP's. Geddit ?
Then if I remember correctly Michael John Procter equalled or broke the world record by scoring six centuries in a row in First Class cricket. Such overall talent drove him to become a pretty mean off-spin bowler too. Nowadays you'll see him on TV at sports events. A respected gentleman from the old school.
Thanks Proccie, good seeing you again.
